The search for homologous pairs:

Based on the kind of images to process, the chosen approach is the following one:

extraction of corners in the two images,
matching of these corners according to correlation criteria.

The following image shows some corners extracted after the first step. The algorithm is from Vinciane Lacroix (to contact her, just click here).

The second step is the matching of corners whose neighborhoods are considered to be the closest to each other by a correlation criterion. False matching may yet occur, especially when the texture is poor or repetitive in an area of the images.
