During the day-time, the mine (for the moment, we just speak about the recently buried one) was hotter than its surroundings, so the contrast was positive, as it can be seen on these images, taken around mid-day (the red arrows point to the mine position):

As expected, during the night-time, the mine was colder than its surroundings, meaning that contrast was negative. This can be seen on the following pair of images, taken around 10 p.m. (the time that is recorded on TICM-2 camera was one hour in retard to the real one):

Of course, between these two types of contrast, inversion (transition period) has to happen, when the signature of the mine disappears. Evening transition period in our case (since it depends on the time of the year, place on the Earth, i.e. inclination of the Sun) was around 6-8 p.m., while morning transition period was around 6-8 a.m. Typical images for transition period were:
